AO: Bringing a Piece of Japan Home
Modern abstract art rooted in stillness and the deep hues of Japan Blue.
The Brand Concept
AO is my personal project to share the quiet beauty of Japan with the world. Based in my home studio in Tokyo, I create abstract art that blends traditional techniques—like the meditative hues of Sumi-e (ink wash)—with modern, everyday inspirations.
The color Blue is the heart of my work. In Japan, this deep, calming blue has long been a part of our daily lives and spiritual landscape. It is the color of the sea that surrounds us and the indigo threads of our history. By using these soulful shades of blue, I aim to bring a sense of clarity and peace to your living space.
My approach is simple: I look for the "Ma" (the beauty of empty space) in iconic symbols and minimal shapes. It’s about finding a sense of calm in a busy world and bringing that feeling into your daily life.
Meet the Artist
Hi, I’m Ken. I was born and raised in Japan, and my journey with design actually started quite a long time ago. After finishing high school here, I moved to the U.S. to study graphic design at a university. I spent four and a half years there, learning how to see the world through a lens of art and balance. It was an amazing experience that gave me a fresh perspective on my own Japanese roots.
When I returned to Japan, life took over. I’ve been working in the IT industry for over 15 years now, and while my career went in a different direction, I never stopped loving design. It was always there, waiting for the right moment.
AO is my way of coming back to that passion. Each piece is something I personally enjoy creating in my home studio during my off-hours, blending my design background with the Japanese aesthetics I grew up with. I hope my work brings a bit of that Japanese serenity to your home, just as it does to mine.
